Past Book Fair Letter
Dear Parents and Families,
BPC will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair to kick off summer reading, from June 10-17. This is a reading event opportunity for your child and you to select books to read over the summer. The more your child reads, the stronger a reader he or she becomes. Strong reading skills are essential to your child’s success in school and life. Our Book Fair encourages this success by offering students access to great books at affordable prices. Children are more likely to read books they personally choose. The wide variety of genres and reading levels offered at our Book Fair ensures that there will be something for everyone!
Parents are invited to join their child at the fair at the times listed on the next page. The book fair will be held in our library. If you are not able to attend and would like your child to select books, please send them to school with money in a sealed envelope (we recommend $20) and our librarian and homeroom teachers will help with your child’s selection process.
Over the summer vacation we recommend students spend time reading each day - either being read to, reading aloud to others, or reading alone. Reading daily for twenty minutes or more will allow your child to keep up the skills she or he has acquired over the course of the year.
In addition to reading, we also recommend setting aside time for students to write each week. Writing in a journal is a creative way to record the events of a fun-filled summer and it will keep up both students’ writing and handwriting abilities for a strong start in the fall. The book fair will have a variety of journals to purchase should you be interested.
Summertime reading is an opportunity for students to explore new genres, engage in a series to follow the adventures of an exciting character, or to go back and reread favorite books and authors. Giving the gift of reading is the best present we can give our kids.
We look forward to seeing you at the fair.
Happy reading!

Fall 2011 Letter
Dear Parents and Families,
BPC will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair October 27 through November 1. The purpose of this event is to promote reading and to get all of our children excited about reading. It is also an opportunity for you and your child to select books to read this school year. The more your child reads, the stronger a reader he or she becomes. Strong reading skills are essential to your child’s success in school and in life. Our Book Fair encourages this success by offering students access to great books at affordable prices. Children are more likely to read books they personally choose. The wide variety of genres and reading levels offered at our Book Fair ensures that there will be something for everyone!

If you are not able to attend and would like your child to select books, please send your child to school with money in a sealed envelope (we recommend $20). Our librarian, homeroom teachers and parent volunteers will help with your child’s selection process.
We recommend that all of our students spend time reading each day - either being read to, reading aloud to others, or reading independently. Reading daily for thirty minutes or more will allow your child to develop strong reading skills and will help to foster a genuine love of reading.
In addition to reading, we also recommend setting aside time for students to write each week. Writing in a journal is a creative way to record events and allows our children to express themselves. Our book fair will have a variety of journals to purchase.
Our fall book fair is an exciting opportunity for students to explore new genres, engage in a series to follow the adventures of an exciting character, or to go back and reread favorite books and authors. Giving the gift of reading is the best present we can give our kids.
We look forward to seeing you at the fair.
